University Education in Turkey
The rise of university education in Turkey:
It can be said that the great renaissance that Turkey has witnessed in the last two decades is due to the great care it has given to university education.
While the number of Turkish universities in the year 2002 was (76) universities, in the year 2022 it became (220) universities. Of these, 60 universities are in Istanbul alone, so that hardly any of its neighborhoods is devoid of a university. And the rest of the universities distributed to all Turkish cities.
At the forefront of these universities are centuries-old universities, led by the University of Istanbul, which is six centuries old to date, and from which very many Turkish government officials and some scientists who won the Nobel Prize or other awards graduated.
And since Turkey joined the Bologna Agreement for University Education, which set standard standards for European-recognized university degrees, which make the certificate recognized in all European Union countries, and it also joined the Erasmus program (ERASMUS), which allows exchange between students of some universities, so that the student goes on One or more semesters at a different university in the European Union.
And since a number of Turkish universities occupied advanced ranks in the global ranking of universities, the demand of foreign students to enroll in Turkish universities increased until the number of foreign students in all Turkish universities reached more than 200,000 students of all nationalities per year.
In addition to the high academic level of Turkish universities and research activities in most of them.. and in addition to the wide range of international recognition of Turkish university degrees, there were many reasons that constituted temptations for the demand to study in Turkey. We mention, for example, but not limited to:
1 – The spread of universities in all Turkish cities, which gives a wide choice of living and studying conditions.
2 – The moderate costs of study and living expenses in Turkey, compared to the costs in European and American countries.
3 – The many scholarships and discounts on university fees, which are offered either by the Turkish government or some private universities.
4- Availability of the choice of language of study, between Turkish and English, in general. In some specializations, studies are available in Arabic, and in others in German.
5- There are many institutes for teaching the Turkish language.
6 – The distinguished social nature of the Turkish people, in terms of the degree of their cultural development, their tolerance and acceptance of foreigners, and the ease of integration with them.
7- The picturesque nature of Turkish geography.
8 – The climate is moderate in summer and winter in most regions of Turkey, especially Istanbul.
9- The possibility of working and earning in addition to studying.
10- The availability of private housing in some universities, and the ease of obtaining housing outside the university.
11- Recreational activities that some universities are interested in, such as sports and cultural activities.
12- Getting to know people from different cultures of the world at the university.
